Current Running Project

Name of the Project: Continuation of physical exercise project for the ex-British Gurkha veterans in Plumstead.

This funding request is to continue the Yoga exercise programme for older ex-British Gurkha veterans, helping them to improve their physical health, mobility, and overall wellbeing. The sessions will take place twice a week, every Monday and Wednesday, with each session lasting one hour. Classes will be held at the Plumstead Centre (The Library), providing an accessible and familiar venue for participants.

CESI will monitor participation by maintaining attendance records to assess the consistency of engagement. The impact of the project will be evaluated through participant feedback, informal conversations, and structured focus group discussions, enabling us to understand the benefits experienced by participants and identify any improvements for future delivery.

This project builds on the success of a previous programme funded by the Greenwich Healthier Communities Fund. Feedback from participants has consistently shown that regular Yoga sessions have helped them remain physically active, improve their flexibility and balance, enhance their mental wellbeing, and maintain their independence and self-reliance. Continued funding will enable CESI to sustain these important health benefits and provide ongoing support to a group that faces significant health inequalities and social isolation.

The Yoga sessions will be held at the Plumstead Centre, which is fully accessible and equipped with lift facilities, making it suitable for participants with reduced mobility. The venue is also centrally located and well served by local public transport, enabling beneficiaries to travel to and from the sessions with ease. CESI volunteers will provide additional support to participants where needed to help ensure they can attend regularly and safely.
